REPORT :

Terrigal defeated Warnervale in the Premier 1 Major Semi-final at Woy Woy Oval, by 36 points to 21. The match was evenly fought for three quarters of the match in which both teams gave it their all. Warnervale got away to a great start when they crossed for a converted try to take a 7 points to nil lead after just 3 minutes. It was just the start the team wanted. However it did not take too long for Terrigal to respond. In the 12th minute they crossed for their opening try to make the score 7 all. The match was proving to be a very even struggle with both possession and territory all evened up. Midway through the first half, Warnervale did exert some sustained pressure for a period of time on the Terrigal line. They were rewarded with their second try to increase their lead to 14 points to 7. Both teams were playing some expansive rugby but at the same time it was physical and hard fought in the forward struggle. This remained the score until right on the halftime hooter when Terrigal crossed for their second try to square the ledger. This halftime score of 14 points apiece was a true indicator of the flow of the first half. Terrigal took the lead for the first time in the match in the 6th minute of the second half when they crossed for their third try. From this point, Terrigal steadily maintained the momentum for the early period of the second half, and were able to steadily increase their lead through a penalty goal and another converted try. At the midway point of the second half Terrigal had slipped away to a handy 31 points to 14 lead and things were looking grim for the Warnervale team. However they never stopped trying to get back into the picture and a great try to their centre Keegan Quakawoot saw the lead reduced to 31 -21. Terrigal cemented the victory in the dying stages of the match to record a well deserved win. It was a good performance by the Terrigal team who continue to wear down teams in the pursuit of the Premiership. Terrigal had several very good performers but none were better than lock Josh Vainikolo, prop Tom Leslie, flanker Will Shipton and five-eight Adam Danckert. Fullback Jayden Woolley also had a strong match and was rewarded with two tries. Best for Warnervale were centre Keegan Quakawoot, who scored 2 tries, prop Tupou Soane, and five-eight Stefan Collins. Terrigal go straight to the Grand Final at Industree Stadium in 2 weeks time, while Warnervale meets Avoca Beach next week at Woy Woy Oval to see who plays Terrigal in the Grand Final.

The Premier 2 Major Semi-Final saw Terrigal defeat Warnervale by 27 points to 17. Warnervale had a great start to this match and had everything going their way in the early stages. In fact they had posted three tries and led by 17 points to nil before Terrigal had opened their account. Terrigal hit back late in the first half with two converted tries, but it was Warnervale who went to the halftime break leading by the narrow margin of 17 points to 14. It was all Terrigal in the second half and they were able to overtake Warnervale and post a further 13 points in the half. Warnervale were unable to increase their score. Terrigal head straight to the Grand Final in two weeks time while Warnervale will play Avoca Beach next Saturday.

The President’s Cup Major Semi-Final proved to be a quite one sided affair which saw The Lakes defeat Terrigal by 25 points to 0. The Lakes controlled proceedings right from the opening whistle. They had the territorial advantage and also controlled much of the possession. The Lakes went to the halftime break leading by 12 points to nil. The Lakes continued to attack in the second half and they were able to score a further two tries in the second stanza to secure victory. It was a strong performance for The Lakes and they go straight to the Grand Final while Terrigal will meet Kariong next Saturday in the Preliminary Final.

In the Women’s 12’s Major Semi-Final, Avoca Beach scored a try in the dying minutes of the match to defeat Lake Macquarie by 17 pointas to 15. It was a tight match throughout. Lake Macquarie led early with two tries, and at half time break, Lake Macquarie led by 15 points to 7. Avoca Beach finished the stronger later in the match and crossed for two tries in the second half to secure the victory. It was an exciting, and high standard, game of rugby and neither team deserved to lose. However, it is Avoca Beach who go straight to the Grand Final while Lake Macquarie meets Terrigal next Saturday to see if they get another chance to play Avoca Beach.
