REPORT :
The Match of the Day at Woongarrah Oval saw Terrigal grab victory on fulltime to defeat Warnervale by 26 points to 22. This contest was even stevens throughout with both teams unable to make a complete break on the scoreboard. Warnervale got the better start and were first to cross for a converted try. This 7 points to nil lead was soon narrowed when Terrigal was able to kick the first of 4 penalty goals in the match. Warnervale went further ahead midway through the first half and this 14 points to 3 lead was fully deserved. Warnervale was playing some excellent rugby and were showing the reigning Premiers that they are also a real threat this year. Terrigal kicked their second penalty goal just prior to the break so Warnervale went to the halftime break leading by 14 points to 6. The start of the second half saw Terrigal hit their straps. They were able to kick a further penalty goal and then cross for a converted try to take the lead in the match for the first time by 16 points to 14. It was anyone’s game at that stage. Terrigal went further ahead with another penalty goal to Adam Danckert before Warnervale responded with their third try in the match. Suddenly the scores were locked at 19 points apiece and it all made for an exciting final stage in the clash. Warnervale took the lead late in the match with a penalty goal to lead 22 points to 19 but it was Terrigal who responded with a try right on the fulltime whistle to snatch the victory away from Warnervale. It was a gripping match throughout and Warnervale, although scoring 3 tries to 2, were unable to hold on long enough for victory. Best players for Terrigal were No.8 Elekana Laupolo, halfback Jye Cornish and prop Salipopo Pamata while Warnervale were best served by flanker Jack Alipate, centre Ofa Siale, and fullback Sevanaia Nabetelevu.
Gosford met The Lakes at Gosford Rugby Field and home team Gosford ran out easy winners by 95 points to 7. In a match that was expected to be quite close, it was Gosford who put on an excellent display of running rugby. The Lakes had no answer and it was Gosford who jumped to a quick 19 points to nil lead. Despite some early attacks by The Lakes, it was Gosford who continued to move the scoreboard along. By halftime, Gosford had leapt to a 38 points to nil lead so even at that stage the result of the contest had already been decided. The second half continued in much the same vein and Gosford were able to post a further 57 points in the second stanza while The Lakes could only respond with the lone try. Best players for Gosford were flanker Logan Campbell, five-eight Josh McGlynn, halfback Ben Shelley and centre Brenton Wagner, who crossed for 5 individual tries. The Lakes were best served by hooker Connor Starkey, centre Ashton Hutchinson-Walters, and flanker Wiremu Pirini.
Razorbacks hosted Lake Macquarie at Ourimbah Rugby Park where the Razorbacks completely outplayed the visitors by 134 points to nil. This match was one way traffic for the entire match. The Razorbacks crossed for 20 tries in was a completely dominant performance. No.8 Matt Martin crossed for 5 tries in the match, while fullback Ryan Fenning kicked 17 conversions. Lake Macquarie had no answer to the onslaught in the match. The Razorbacks led by 89 points to nil at the halftime break, and then went to complete the victory in the second half. Best players for the Razorbacks were winger Alifereti Joji, fullback Ryan Fenning and halfback Connor Peden. Despite the heavy loss, centre Mark Devries and prop Nathan Keogh never stopped trying for Lake Macquarie.
Avoca Beach were at home against Woy Woy at Heazlett Park and it was Avoca Beach who ran out victors by 83 points to 14. It was one way traffic for the entire match although Woy Woy did cross for two converted tries late in the match. Avoca Beach dominated from the opening whistle and they went to the halftime break leading by 52 points to nil. The match was already settled by then. Woy Woy had a much better second half but were still outscored by 31 points to 14 in the second stanza by the home team. Best players for Avoca Beach were halfback Mitch Magrath, flankers Matt Hurd and Blake Jacob, and winger Mitchell Briggs, while centre Alex Halls crossed for 3 tries. Best for Woy Woy were flanker Casey Woodford, centre Braydon Mako and prop Sione Fanua.
The Women’s 10’s competition matches continued today. The Lakes, Terrigal and Avoca Beach all recorded important victories on the day.
