REPORT :
Avoca Beach hosted Warnervale at Heazlett Park and the contest resulted in a victory for Avoca Beach by 25 points to 12. It was a hard fought battle from start to finish. Avoca Beach got away to the better start with two penalty goals to lead by 6 points to nil. Warnervale were quick to respond however, when they crossed for a converted try to take the lead by 7 points to 6. This remained the score for quite awhile until Avoca Beach crossed for their first try to take the lead by 11 points to 7. This remained the score at half time in what was proving to be a tough, grinding match up between two teams desperate for victory. Both teams were showing they are Premiership contenders and have the team to make an impact on the Finals Series coming up. The second half continued in much the same vein but it was Avoca Beach who were able to score two tries to one in that final 40 minutes. Avoca Beach maintains their unbeaten record this year and has placed themselves at the top of the competition table as a result of this victory. Warnervale were good and will threaten all teams in the final matches of the season. Best players for Avoca Beach were hooker Brad Sheridan, halfback Charlie Crimmings, lock Michael Hobden, five-eight Sam Evans and No.8 Matt Anderson. Warnervale had several good players but none were better than centre Ofa Siale, lock Alan Pene, and prop Veipueki Siale.
Gosford Rugby Field witnessed an exciting game of rugby between home team Gosford and visitors Terrigal and the match which resulted in a 37 all draw. This match was even stevens for the entire 80 minutes. There was absolutely nothing between the two teams from start to finish. Gosford got away to a great start and led by 5 points to nil after a great try to centre Brenton Wagner, within the first two minutes of the kickoff. Terrigal soon squared things up with their own try. The whole match was like this, where the two teams basically went point for point. At halftime both teams had crossed for two tries apiece but conversions for Terrigal had taken them to a 14 points to 10 lead at the halftime break. Gosford took the lead early in the second half with a third try and a penalty goal but once again Terrigal responded with their own try soon after to regain the lead. The whole match was like this. Terrigal did increase that lead to 31 points to 25 with time running out but a rush of points scoring in the final few minutes saw the result as 37 points all draw. Both teams played well and both showed they will be in contention for honours later in the season. Best players for Terrigal were prop Harry Gray, lock Zach Byrne and halfback Jye Cornish, while Gosford were best served by five-eight Josh McGlynn, flanker Hugo Pike, lock Nick Outram and centre Michael Jones.
The Lakes proved too strong for Woy Woy in their clash at Slade Park, running out victors by 56 points to 12. The Lakes took control from the very start and it was not long before they opened the scoring with a try. In fact; they had scored five unconverted tries in the first 30 minutes before Woy Woy were able to respond. The Lakes had the game secured at the halftime break when they led by 32 points to 12. Woy Woy did cross for two late tries late in the first half when Casey Woodford was able to get a double. The Lakes then were able to post a further 24 points in the second half to get the much needed victory. Best players for The Lakes were flanker Seth Olsen, centres Hayden Nykolyn and Iliese Cama and five-eigth Braedyn Hutchinson-Walters. Woy Woy were best served by flankers Nataniela Parker and Casey Woodford, and fullback Ulysses Fotofili.
Hornsby and Lake Macquarie met at Mark Taylor Oval and it was one way traffic for much of the 80 minutes with Hornsby running out winners by 78 points to 5. The first half was all Hornsby and they went to the halftime break leading by 52 points to nil, having crossed for 8 tries even at that stage. They were able to continue on and posted another 26 points in the second half, with Lake Macquarie crossing for the lone try. A feature of the match was the 31 individual points scored by five-eight Hunter Bird. Best players for Hornsby were No.8 Hamish Perring, lock Jayden Castleden and flanker Blake Davenport. Lake Macquarie were best served by five-eight Mark De Vries, flanker Nathan Keogh and lock Luke Sumner.
The Women’s 10’s competition matches continued today. Terrigal, The Lakes and Avoca Beach all recording significant victories on the day. The match between Terrigal and the Razorbacks was a beauty with both teams playing some exceptional rugby. Terrigal were able to outlast a very strong effort by the Razorbacks to the tune of 33 points to 24.
