ROUND 12

The Central Coast Rugby Union season continues this coming Saturday with some exciting WLG Premier 1 matches in Round 12. There are three rounds to go before the Finals and interest is mounting to see who makes the Finals Series.

The ‘Match of the Day’ will be at Ourimbah Rugby Park when home team the Razorbacks will be hosting the visiting Avoca Beach. This is such an important clash in terms of the Finals race. Both teams will make the Finals this year but it is a race to get that second spot on the competition ladder. Both teams know to play in the Major Semifinal gives the teams two chances if there is a defeat in the first game in the Finals. There is so much to play for next Saturday. Currently the Razorbacks are in second spot but only the single point in front of reigning Premiers Avoca Beach. The Razorbacks have the home ground advantage which is a huge plus for them. They are also coming off a very comfortable victory last Saturday against Woy Woy but this contest will prove a much tougher proposition this weekend. Avoca Beach know they must get the win on Saturday to get in from of the Razorbacks. They lost to Terrigal last Saturday and also only had a one-point win over Gosford the week before. So, it has not gone all their own way in recent weeks. They will want to change that this Saturday. It all makes for a great day of rugby at Ourimbah.

Gosford travel north to meet Lake Macquarie at Walters Park, Boolaroo in what could be another interesting game of rugby. Lake Macquarie will be most keen to get back into the winner’s circle in this match as they have lost their matches over the last three weekends. They will see this as a great chance to change all that and to get their first win in a while. They are at home and they are much stronger when there. Gosford are coming off the bye so will be freshened up and ready to go. Gosford showed in their last outing that they are playing their best rugby of the year, when they only narrowly lost to Avoca Beach two weeks ago. But this is a tough ask for that this coming Saturday. Both teams will be desperate for victory on Saturday.

Woy Woy will host the Warnervale at Woy Woy Oval on Saturday. Warnervale will go in to this clash as clear favourites. They had a most pleasing win last Saturday when they accounted for Lake Macquarie. That victory showed they are coming into the right form at the business end of the season. Woy Woy played quite well last Saturday despite their loss to the Razorbacks. They know they must play out the full 80 minutes if they are to get their first win of the season. Warnervale will be tough as they know a win for them will definitely lock in their Finals spot for this year. Woy Woy is at home which is a plus for them but they are up against a team in fourth position on the competition adder and who are most keen to improve on that.

Terrigal have the bye in Premier 1 rugby.

Saturday also sees the continuance of the Central Coast Women’s 12’s competition. There are three matches in Round 12 this coming Saturday – Terrigal will meet The Lakes at Slade Park, the Razorbacks host Avoca Beach, and Warnervale travels south to meet Woy Woy.

In President’s Cup, Kariong meets Warnervale on Friday night at home, and on Saturday, Avoca Beach plays the Razorbacks, Lake Macquarie hosts The Bay, and Terrigal travels to Slade Park to meet home team The Lakes.
