REPORT :
The Match of the Day at Tuggerah Sporting Complex was a high scoring clash between The Razorbacks and Kariong. The match was moved to Tuggerah because Kariong Oval had been deemed unfit to use. Kariong won this clash by 50 points to 26. The Razorbacks opened the scoring in the match with the first try but it was not long before Kariong replied and took the lead. Kariong had the better of the first half and by half time had jumped to a handy 27 point to 12 lead. Best players for Kariong at this stage were hooker Richard Harvey, centre Mitch Clay and lock Nic Outram. The Razorbacks had a good period of play early in the second half when they were able to respond with 2 converted tries. At the midway point of the second half the score was quite close, with Kariong leading by 32 points to 26. The match could have gone either way at that stage. Best players for the Razorbacks at this were prop Steve Finley, who had crossed for 3 tries, halfback Jarrod Grange, and fullback Toby Carver. However, it was all Kariong in the final quarter of the match. They were able to take control on the paddock and thus surge ahead on the scoreboard. Kariong were able to post 18 points to nil in this final period of the match. Kariong have shown they are Finals contenders while the Razorbacks will build on this as the season progresses.
Avoca Beach proved far too strong for Woy Woy, running out winners by 62 points to 7 at Ettalong Oval. This match had been transferred to Ettalong Oval due to the closure of Heazlett Park. Avoca Beach controlled this match from start to finish. They proved far too strong in the set pieces and by half time had jumped to a 31 points to nil lead. Much the same continued in the second half where Woy Woy had no answer to the onslaught. The result sees Avoca Beach in great form and one of the Premiership contenders at this stage of the season. Best players for Avoca Beach were hooker Cooper Elliott, No.8 Matt Anderson, halfback Mitch Magrath and winger Joe Carroll, who crossed for three individual tries. Woy Woy’s best performers were fullback Cory Delaforce, who scored their lone try, hooker Sione Fanua and halfback Tiraho Pakai
Warnervale ran out victors over Gosford by 29 points to7 at Woongarah Oval. This match had also been changed from Gosford Showground with Gosford losing that vital home ground advantage. Warnervale certainly did not have it all their own way in this match, and it took much of the match before Warnervale was able to assert their control on the match. Gosford scored first with a converted try, but by halftime Warnervale had taken the lead by 12 points to 7. It was still anybody’s game at that stage. Warnervale cemented the win in the second half with 2 further tries while Gosford were unable to respond on the scoreboard. Best players for Warnervale were prop Jack Gary, who scored 2 tries, flanker Kye Haslam and halfback Brenton Acreman. Gosford were best served by their front row, namely props Ben Harvey Suli Hakalo. Both teams will take a lot from this match – Warnervale sit at the top of the competition ladder while Gosford proved they will be most competitive this year.
The Terrigal v. Hornsby games were not played due to covid issues.
The Bay President’s Cup team met The Lakes at Joseph Banks Oval in what proved an enthralling game of rugby. The Lakes ran out winners by 41 points to 7.
Women’s 10’s rugby continued with three excellent matches. The two matches on display demonstrated some highly skilled 10’s rugby. A comfortable win was recorded by The Lakes over Kariong/Razorbacks, while Terrigal had a very close win over Hornsby.
