CENTRAL COAST RUGBY UNION ACHIEVES HUGE SUCCESS AT THE NSW COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS IN TAMWORTH
The three teams had wonderful success at the NSW Country Rugby Championships in Tamworth. The three teams played numerous matches over the weekend before achieving success.
CCRU Senior XV
The Central Coast team won the prestigious Caldwell Cup after defeating Illawarra in the Final by 46 points to 43. In a cliffhanger of a Final, the Central Coast boys kicked a penalty goal on fulltime to get the mighty victory.
The team had defeated Far North Coast and Mid North Coast to reach the Final. The Central Coast have been in the Final the last three years in a row, and have won two. A wonderful effort.
CCRU Colts
The Central Colts won all their four matches to take the Rowlands Cup Championship for the second year running. All games were tight however the final winning match against Central West saw the Central Coast team score at the final bell to take the title.
CCRU Women’s XV
The Women’s won the Shield Final after defeating Illawarra in the Final. They had a win and a loss on the first day but it was enough for them to reach the Shield Final and achieve a hard fought 9 nil victory.
It was a massive day for Central Coast Rugby Union. It is the first time in the history of Central Coast Rugby that the Zone had achieved three trophies in the one Championships. The Zone could not have done any better over the weekend. The three teams had achieved 9 wins and only the single one-point loss over the weekend. The three teams travelled home with three trophies in what was the most successful Championships in the history of Central Coast Rugby Union.
