CENTRAL COAST RUGBY UNION

PREVIEW

SATURDAY, 27th JULY, 2024

ROUND 14

The Central Coast Rugby Union season continues this coming Saturday with the final round in WLG Premier 1 matches with Round 14. This last round will determine standings in all Grades for the Final Series which will commence the following Saturday.

The ‘Match of the Day’ will be at Woongarrah Oval where Warnervale will host the visitors Avoca Beach. This match will be a major factor into who goes into second spot on the competition ladder, and thus who will go into the Major Semifinal on Saturday fortnight. So, it is an all-important clash to say the very least. The Razorbacks, who have the bye, will be most interested in the result. This match will be close. This match result will determine who finishes 2nd, 3rd and 4th this season. There is much to play for. Avoca Beach are coming off the bye so will be keen to get back onto the paddock and will be fully prepared for this contest. They had a good win over The Razorbacks in their last encounter so that result showed they are hitting the right form at the right time of the season. Warnervale are also playing well. They have had three wins on the trot so they do have that winning feeling. This match however will be much tougher of course. They are playing against a fellow semi-finalist so it will be a good indicator of matches later in the season. Warnervale do have that vital home ground advantage which is a big plus for them. So, this will be a classic game of rugby and the result will be sought by many.

Gosford will travel to The Haven Oval on Saturday to take on Terrigal. Terrigal will go in to this clash as clear favourites. These two traditional rivals will put on a great display of rugby. Terrigal have nothing to lose. They are the Minor Premiers this year so will treat the match as preparation for the Finals. They will be most keen to go into the Finals still undefeated. Gosford also have nothing to lose. They have played some pleasing rugby in recent weeks but this contest will be a far tougher position. They have been most competitive in recent weeks even pushing Avoca Beach and Warnervale in recent matches. Gosford has the chance to take the Challenge Shield in the final match of the season, so they do have something to play for in this contest. These two teams have played each other since the foundation year in 1975 and all matches have been intense and hard fought.

Lake Macquarie will travel to Woy Woy Oval to take on the home team Woy Woy. Lake Macquarie will go into this match as slight favourites, however Lake Macquarie have not won a match in 5 outings so will be desperate to get back onto the winner’s dais in this clash. So, they will see this as a great chance to do so despite the long trip away. Woy Woy have not had a win this season so they will be most keen to get their first win with their final outing of the year. Woy Woy are at home and will be competitive in this match. It all makes for an exciting and interesting match at Woy Woy Oval.

Razorbacks have the bye in Premier1.

Saturday also sees the continuance of the Central Coast Women’s 12’s competition. There are three matches in this final Round 14 this coming Saturday – Lake Macquarie will meet Woy Woy at Woy Woy Oval, the Razorbacks and The Lakes clash in an important match at Ourimbah Rugby Park, and Avoca Beach will travel to meet Warnervale.

In President’s Cup, The Bay meets the Razorbacks on Friday night at home, and on Saturday, Avoca Beach travels to meet Warnervale, Lake Macquarie plays Kariong, and Terrigal and meets The Bay at The Haven Oval.
