CCRU marked a special milestone on Friday 24th April with the competition’s inaugural Friday night fixture at The Haven, as Terrigal and Avoca Beach went head-to-head in a full slate of grades. With matches kicking off from 4:20pm and culminating under lights with WLG Premier 1 at 8:10pm, the evening delivered a fitting showcase of local rugby.
Across all grades, the contests were tight, physical, and played in great spirit, perfectly reflecting the significance of the day.
Terrigal vs Avoca Beach
The headline act in WLG Premier 1 was a genuine thriller, with Terrigal edging Avoca Beach 27–26 in a match that had everything. Terrigal set the tone early, asserting themselves through powerful opening exchanges and building scoreboard pressure. However, the momentum shifted dramatically in the second half, with Avoca’s backline coming to life, beating inside defenders, shifting the point of attack, and creating space across the park. In the end, it was heartbreak for Avoca, falling just one point short in a gripping finish. Avoca scored with just 90 seconds left in the game to lead by 6 but a crafty regather off the next kick-off ensured Terrigal controlled the last passage of play to score next to the uprights to reach victory. A first loss of the season for Avoca and a first win for Terrigal. A big congratulations to all involved in the evening.
Premier 2 was equally compelling, with Avoca Beach claiming a narrow 17–15 victory in another high-quality encounter that went down to the wire.
In Premier 3, Terrigal prevailed 12–6 in a hard-fought, defensively driven match where opportunities were limited and every point proved crucial.
The Women’s Premier 1 clash showcased a different style of contest, with defence dominating throughout. Avoca Beach secured a 7–0 win in a low-scoring affair, with much of the game played through the middle third and both sides showing resilience and discipline. Avoca Beach remains unbeaten in 2026.
Lake Macquarie vs GK Rugby
Lake Macquarie delivered a dominant ANZAC Day performance, completing a clean sweep over GK Rugby across all four grades in an emphatic club display.
The headline result came in WLG Premier 1, where Lake Macquarie flexed their attacking firepower with a commanding 64–15 victory. Clinical execution, speed out wide, and relentless pressure saw them take full control and underline their status as the team to beat in 2026.
That momentum carried into Premier 2, with Lake Macquarie again proving too strong, securing a 51–24 win in an open and high-scoring contest.
The Women’s Premier 1 clash provided a much tighter affair, with Lake Macquarie edging GK Rugby 12–10 in a hard-fought battle. Defence and composure proved the difference in a match that could have gone either way. Lake Macquarie rack up there first win of the season.
